Carl Stimson: After a decade as a Japanese-English translator specializing in medical research and news articles, in 2021 I embarked on a new career in machine learning through a one-year intensive program with Bloom Institute of Technology. While I want to continue to apply my expertise in medicine, languages and translation to applications in ML and AI, life has taught me that interesting opportunities can come from unexpected directions. During my data science training, I enjoyed diving back into math and statistics for predictive modeling, but I also was fascinated by the data engineering and MLOps side of things in our team projects. Figuring out how to create robust and intuitive infrastructure for moving and processing data proved as interesting as learning about the latest deep learning techniques.
