It may be intuitive to think crowdfunding a project drives its innovation and novelty, but there are no empirical studies that prove this. On the show, Johannes Wachs shares his research that sought to determine whether crowdfunding truly drives innovation. He used board games as a case study and shared the results he found.

Johannes Wachs: "Johannes Wachs is an assistant professor at the Institute for Data, Process and Knowledge Management of the Vienna University of Economics and Business and a researcher at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna. He has a PhD in Network Science from Central European University. He studies social, technical, and economic networks and their effects on society using methods of data and network science. His recent work examines how the web enables new kinds of cooperation between people."
