The Imitation Game

This week on Data Skeptic, we begin with a skit to introduce the topic of this show: The Imitation Game. We open with a scene in the distant future. The year is 2027, and a company called Shamony is announcing their new product, Ada, the most advanced artificial intelligence agent.

Holly Laurent: Holly Laurent is a member of the longstanding improv group The Reckoning and is a consulting writer for The Onion News Network. As a cast member of the Second City main stage in Chicago she wrote and performed in their past three revues Southside of Heaven, Who Do We Think We Are, and Let Them Eat Chaos. She trained at iO Chicago, the Annoyance Theater, 500 Clown, and toured with the Second City touring company. Holly holds a M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College and teaches improv everywhere.

Peter Clark: Dr. Peter Clark is the Interim CEO and a Senior Research Director at the Allen Institute for AI (AI2). His research spans the areas of automated scientific discovery, knowledge representation and reasoning, commonsense reasoning, and natural language understanding. He co-leads AI2's Asta Project, a large-scale initiative developing agentic frameworks for both assisted and automated scientific discovery. He received his Ph.D. in 1991 and has worked in AI for over 35 years. He has published over 250 papers including five Best Paper awards, and is an ACL Fellow, Boeing Associate Technical Fellow, and Senior Member of AAAI.
